Monthly Musings: April 2017

An overview of opinions and observations for the month.

01/04/2017 @08:54
Talk about an unexpected lie in! After going bed at 21:30 last night, I've only just been woken up by a beautiful little Princess! Fresh as a daisy after almost 12hrs kip! April's Fool, Ilysha woke me up at 05:50 slapping my face because she needed the toilet. I am utterly knackered.

I love Whisper for provoking idiots into arguments they don't have the intellectual capacity to win.

After being awoken with a face full of hair from a little sweetheart giving me cuddles in bed, we're downstairs cuddled up in our sleeping bags xo

Ugh, thought most pubs accept cards these days... clearly not in this neck of the woods! 45 minutes sat at a bus stop instead I guess. Lesson learnt.

Strange? More like Doctor Fucking Mental. I feel like someone has spiked me with acid and I'm tripping balls watching this.

For those who never realised, my passion is writing and recording tracks - feel free to show some support... or just ignore this - I'll still be doing it either way ;)

My daughter's crying, inside I'm dying as I leave her //
Her Mum screams behind closed doors, but I hear her //
My feet drag, reluctantly I'm walking //
A million voices in my head are all talking //
My thoughts are a scribble, jotted in a sketchbook //
A knot in my stomach, now's not the time to get shook //
Just wanna run back there to save her //
Hammer on the door - be her hero, her saviour //
Replace her tears with smiles, the heartbreak with embraces //
Instead I'm forced to vacate these places...

If you receive good customer service, always make an effort to express your gratitude. In a world where good customer service is a rarity, and advisors often work long shifts feeling unappreciated, a few kind words can make all the difference to their sense of worth. It's the least you can do to put a smile on their face :)

I still can't believe Trump actually launched 59 Tomahawk missiles at Syria with an estimated cost of $49 million to the US taxpayer. It's madness. No wonder all the mainstream media are going on about it and won't stop ramming it down our throats. I remember the outcry when Obama spent $500 million on training Syrian rebels in 2014 following almost 200 bombings of their country (which included Tomahawk missiles) within the 2 months prior that admittedly killed civilians including children, and ultimately created the Syrian refugee crisis. Oh, wait there was none. That was okay because it fitted the mainstream media narrative.

Over the years, you've been called many different things; Matthew, Matty, Matt, Fat Matt, Mole, Tank, Mozzaa, Slim Belly, Old Man Fatty and no doubt many others... however my favourite is the one I've known you as since you came into my life, and that is "little brother"! <3 It's mad to think, the little shy lad that I met way back when we were kids has grown into a big strong bloke who can out-drink me and grow a better beard than I can! (Can't take a shin to shin tackle quite as well though) ;) You're a top guy, even if you're a prick for always wanting to spend our entire holidays in the pub whether it's in Budapest, Krakow or Albufeira - but that's you all over, a spot of footy on the TV and some craft beers, and you're gold! πŸ˜‚ So raise a glass to it being your birthday, to you being a quarter of century old, and to it being less than a month until we go Berlin! Love you little brother, happy 25th birthday! <3

"Oh I know, I wanna so fall in love /
But this city is full of harlots, and charlatans, and scrubs /
Fakers and heart-breakers, who would sooner bleed me dry /
Than build something beautiful from emotions we deny...
And I'm going down, the waves drag me asunder /
I fight to surface but the shipwreck is stronger /
And my shackles hold fast - I'm bound to fate /
To drown in the tears that fall down my face...
Oh my dearest I yearn for your touch /
But we're stranger’s and it's dangerous to love /
To surrender is weakness to freedom and trust /
And freedom has broke many souls to dust...
And I'm going down, the waves drag me asunder /
I fight to surface but the shipwreck is stronger /
And my shackles hold fast - I'm bound to fate /
To drown in the tears that fall down my face."

10/04/2017 @00:02
Finally began to really flesh out and firm up some creative writing I've been meaning to work on for a while now. I think I've really got an original idea here that I can build on to create a very intricate narrative, and I'm really looking forward to this project! "The rich fields rolled out, unfolding before him like fresh spring bed covers draped across the landscape. Jagged mountain peaks rose to his right, proud and defiant above a dense canopy of treetops. To his left the greenery spanned into the horizon. With the crash of foam crested waves breaking the shore to his back, he took his first step towards the silhouette of civilisation beckoning ahead, nestled amidst the vibrant terrain. His ship had been a victim of the savage storm that had seemingly claimed the lives of his crew. With what few items he'd managed to salvage from the wreckage, he had made it to land clinging to debris that now littered the coastline. His stomach growled, deep and prolonged. It had been nigh on a week since he had satisfied his hunger with a decent meal. The ship rations had become exhausted rapidly as they skirted the unnatural whirlpools navigating their way slowly toward the Isle of Esk. As they had loaded the provisions aboard the Pathseeker twenty three days earlier, they never anticipated the delays they would face on their approach. The freak storm that ultimately claimed the vessel had appeared from nowhere, materialising and subsiding unnaturally. How he had made it to shore past the remaining whirlpools was a mystery. There was no whisper of the storm that had plundered his ship now; instead the sky was painted azure, with soft cotton wool clouds scattered abreast. Soft sand shifted, consuming his shin high boots as he trudged inland. Within a few yards small jutting rocks pierced through the sand, swiftly ebbing into mossy grass. His wet clothes hung heavily, serenaded by a steady patter of water dripping from his shoulder length hair that cascaded like an auburn waterfall around his face."

10/04/2017 @17:37
Today was a good day.

11/04/2017 @01:04
"He pressed forward, his boots squelching as the grass needlessly lapped up the seawater that escaped from his clothes, the sun already drying out his auburn hair. He snatched up a few blades of the grass, running them between his fingers as he went; sunkiss grass had seemed a myth until now, a plant that did not need water to flourish. Under the rays of sunshine, the blades shimmered in his hands as if alight; he had heard tales of the fire fields, huge sweeping grasslands that burned orange as if aflame, and yet never until now had he witnessed their beauty. Nature spoke as he baked in its aura; the fire fields whispered whilst the heads of majestic red flowers nodded among themselves, and the occasional hiss of fireflies darted past his head." - Lightfade

Recently I found myself feeling creative, and not wanting to focus all my energies on my usual passion of making music, so I decided to focus my energy in a different direction. I've always enjoyed writing stories, though I often lose motivation early in and end up adding another half completed project to my pile. This time round however, I'm actually going to give it a proper bash. Little known fact, as a child I actually wanted to be an author and writing my own stories has always been something I aimed to do. I'm almost 30 years old now and not getting any younger, and after spending the last few nights working on a new project I came up with, I've decided I really want to see this through to completion. So yeah, I guess I'm writing a proper book!

12/04/2017 @01:04
"Silence echoed unnervingly, its prevalence decorating the airwaves. What was that idiom again? Silent as the grave; ironically relevant, as this magnificent structure was beginning to appear concerningly like a tomb, a mausoleum perhaps? My senses were now amplified; my awareness increased despite my state of health. I was nauseated, fatigued, but curiosity had her claws ingrained deep beneath my skin and stubbornly refused to release me… like the ink of a tattoo, those splinters of intrigue we find all too familiar, provoking our animalistic instincts of impulsive recklessness."

"Worn granite, mottled with moss and leechweed crumbled underfoot. The air was damp, a musty odour permeating through the tunnel from the fathomless depths below. Faint lights flickered nervously in the deep whilst misshaped shadows danced eerily across the jagged face of the walls. The path was indeed treacherous, a chorus of heavy breathing and the occasional groan of leather accompanied them as they descended the weathered stairwell."

"The first loosed arrow was indiscernible, the barb spitting claret as it emerged from a trachea like a blossoming flower. Desperate hands grasped helplessly at the wound that flourished beneath a face contorted in confusion, gagging as blood erupted from behind rotting teeth. He’d seen the second bolt as it whistled through the air, the blade that held him captive clattering as the arrow lodged itself firmly into it owners shoulder. A pitiful yelp pierced the air as he’d recoiled, providing an opening for NyrΓΆk to scramble to his feet and seize the weapon. The third bandit fled, branches clawing at his garbs as he stumbled through the undergrowth. He had not covered much ground before Kirx had nocked another arrow and buried it into his back."

"The flat delicate sand stubbornly shifted, impeding my approach as best it could, but my desire was too strong. My stomach roared, my throat rasped, my feet screamed for mercy. My ignorance was bliss, my hope masking out pain effortlessly. The building slowly came into focus, it’s features brash, it‘s architecture unrivalled. Enchanting white marble swept up from the sand into a towering structure of ancient splendour. Its exterior walls boasted engravings of inconceivable enormity, yet each was executed with unparalleled accuracy and grace. Adornments of flawless gold spiralled and snaked confidently amidst the etchings, strangely symbolic and suggestive of an ancient religious script. Toward the base, a shallow alcove housed a small open shaft, shielded by an ornate gold portcullis, its wrought bars fashioned into an inverted emblem. There was no evidence of a lock, perhaps the buildings purity and religious appearance was intimidating enough to ward away unwanted attention? Who would have ever imagined such an untainted and pristine building could reside concealed in the barrenness of this desert? Not many I’d presume. Perhaps that explained the absence of a lock? Regardless, it was undoubtedly optimistic for my famished and fatigued body. What wonders would the interior possess? There was only one way to find out, toward the portcullis I advanced."

I love how girls post on each others pictures like "omg you are so beautiful" and they reply "not as razz as you babesss" etc. If I posted that on a lads picture I would get unfriended, not a reciprocal compliment πŸ˜‚

Okay, just an observation. In the kid friendly spirit of acknowledging the Tooth Fairy, does she magically know when a tooth has fallen out and come to trade it for a coin, or does she come every night and check on the off chance there is one under the pillow?

You stopped replying and I just stopped trying.../
Tell myself that I don't miss you, but I'm lying.

πŸ’”
As I've grown up, I've realised how transient friendships are. One year someone can be your best friend, creating memories together constantly... and a few years later you don't even speak. School friendships, college friendships, university friendships, work friendships, friends you make through other friends... none of it ever seems to last, at least not for me. Don't mistake my meaning, I mean, of course those people are my friends still, but it's just... they aren't how a friendship should be. They are more casual acquaintances now. People you say "hi" too, and ask how life is going... but ultimately you go your separate ways. Life pulls you apart, jobs, relationships, responsibilities, all of it getting in your way and pushing a wedge between you. I recall seeing these films growing up that show friendships that last a lifetime, and I yearn for that - a friend who grows with you, you always have time for each other and you share interests and opinions consistently. But the older I get the more it seems like a lie. Even friends you never thought you'd lose, they fade away and leave you with rose tinted memories, and a bitter taste of what once was. And at the end of the day, you're left feeling empty, and cynical of friendships, letting current ones fade out because you've lost the motivation to fight for them, when it feels like they fade out regardless. πŸ’”

Gaming so far in 2017 has been good. Ignoring DLC add-on's skewering my % stats, three Platinum's since the start of the year can't be bad. Plus Arkham Knight is actually 70% done on core but there are SIXTEEN add-on packs with trophies, what even the fuck is that about.

17/04/2017 @23:57
I used to think that being stopped from seeing my daughter was the most heartbreaking thing I would ever experience, but forcing her to go back her Mum's house whilst she desperately clings to me, and breaks her heart sobbing that she wants to stay with me instead is definitely a close second.

18/04/2017 @00:24
Question on Life of Dad at the minute that has raised a lot of conflicting opinions. Parents on my friends list, please weigh in for my sanity: When using public toilets with your child (of the opposite gender to yourself) which gender do you use? I've always taken Ilysha in the guys, that just seems like societal norm to me... however some women are going nuts about exposure and saying Dad's should take their daughters in the women's? It would never even cross my mind to venture into the females - I would imagine being looked at like I'm some sort of pervert despite having Ilysha with me. And I swear I've never seen a woman come into the blokes with a male child either. This isn't just me, right?

"The stone steps rose sharply toward an opening, the fresh aroma of spring drifting down to meet them upon a gentle breeze. Dappled sunlight spotted across the chipped stonework guiding them toward the sound of birds chirping in a playful exchange. The crude doorway opened out into a circular cave, dense clusters of flowers in a wide palette of hues sprang up out of the aquamarine ankle deep water. A large opening in the cave roof welcomed in sunlight that cut through lilac blossoms pluming atop a broad white tree trunk standing proudly in the midst. A delicate mist hung in the air, the taste of honey moistening lips, as a chorus of falling water echoed from a nearby waterfall hemmed with snaking ivy that draped over recesses in the cave walls. Monarch butterflies danced in the air, bumblebees idled upon stamen, the whole room breathing life."

I am so impatient when it comes to creative pursuits, I always want to get feedback and opinions on what I'm working on. Whether it's half completed artwork, draft copies of songs, or partially completed creative writing. I am crap when it comes to holding out to present the final product.

"It had been several hours of arduous trawling through dense foliage. Kirx’s bandage had been fixed, tightened, and replaced numerous times, and in the overwhelming humidity the urskwood sap continued to absorb into the blood speckled linen rapidly. Vials had been refilled from makeshift spigots that drew sap from deep within the chalk bark of the urskwood trunks. Nyrok readjusted his sheathe swinging limply from his loosened belt, wiped his forehead with the sleeve of his tunic, and ran his fingers through his damp matted mane."

"Familiar terrain welcomed them, clearings populated with abandoned tents, makeshift campfires and caches of discarded possessions, largely worthless baubles and brac-a-brac. The urskwood trees had seamlessly merged into regular birch trees, the white bark inheriting zebra-like skin whilst the canopy had lost it’s vibrant purple flair, replaced with an underwhelmingly ordinary shamrock green. The glade boasted previous battles with loosed arrows embedded into splintered wood, rent tunics and sundered armour embraced by undergrowth, and shattered blades that littered the ground."

25/04/2017 @01:02
"The aroma of petrichor flourished, carried on the cool refreshing breeze. The wet gravel crunching underfoot, scratching amongst itself, as stressed leather creaked with each step. The outline of the great port city of Valyskr, masked by the haze of steadily falling rain, slowly drew nearer as the track steeped away from the treeline into a sprawling valley. The faint rumble of thunder echoed in the distant, building from a steady humble groan into a chorus of angry doppler's that tore across the horizon."

26/04/2017 @01:31
"The path opened out into a bustling marketplace. Traders pedalling all manner of wares hollered from beneath striped awnings in spite of the rain that continued to cascade from angry gray clouds. Tailors loitered in doorways awaiting custom, a blacksmith relentlessly hammered away shaping glowing steel over his anvil, small children in mismatched clothing darted between tight clusters of stalls laughing and shouting, and patrons milled about clutching baskets of fruit, and bolts of fabric."

These videos amuse me. Simple logic - stand in the road blocking innocent drivers way, banging on their vehicle, then act surprised and play the victim when the driver reaches breaking point and runs your stupid ass over. What's with the motorbike at 15 secs too, pulling wrong way down the slip into oncoming traffic lanes!?
