Totally forgot I passively aggressively moved the toilet roll holders out of the cubicles on Friday in response to staffs complete apathy toward using them once they finish a roll off. Got work this morning to confusion and uproar about it. Admitted I'd moved them; justified it by pointing out that nobody fucking uses them anyway, so I didn't think it would matter... 💁♂️💅

Given my own decision to curtail my social media consumption a few months back, I have to admit that this summary holds weight. Social media is largely a toxic cesspool of negativity, hate, and trolls; stepping back from heavy usage has given me time to reflect on the impact the content used to have on me, and it was admittedly not positive. For younger, easily influenced demographics, I'd argue that social media in it's current format is unsuitable due to the inherent lack of moderation and oversight.

Really enjoying The Long Dark, an immersive survival game that really draws you in. It's just you and the wilderness of Canada, where you're most likely to die of starvation, dehydration, or hypothermia, rather than being torn apart by a wild animal. A hauntingly beautiful experience.

Sam & Crab running late, so ordered us a Maccies. Our ambitious stargazing plans devolved into an absolute fail-fest... 😒 first rain begins hammering down at 19:50 prompting tears and panic that it's not going to even happen... then it stops raining. Sammie & Crab turn up, we head off up dark roads away from city life to minimise light pollution; Frog announces she needs the toilet, despite it now being 21:15 and we're in the arse end of nowhere. The girls return from Morrison's toilets, and we drive up into the moorlands where the visibility is unrivalled and artificial light is almost non-existent. We end up in a layby where there are steps up to an outcropping with what appears to be some kind of seating viability; there is also a padlocked gate with barbed wire preventing access, and a huge intermittent floodlight with a motion sensor... We are now resigned to the layby being as good as it gets. The wind is gale force; the disposable BBQ does not stand a chance, and it won't light for us to have the s'mores. Awesome. Sammie's also just realised now that her hot chocolate has leaked all inside her bag out of a travel mug. Frog has given up at this point and is sat in the car with Crab, who has somehow eaten an entire pack of chocolate digestives whilst me and Sammie have been trying in vain to salvage the experience. We accept defeat and decide to just go back home. Absolute shit show. Frog announces that she didn't want all this anyway; she'd just wanted to lie on a blanket in a field looking up at the stars. We overcomplicated it trying to make it special; lesson learned. And now I'm back home eating a toasted s'more that I cooked over the gas hob in the kitchen, and Frog is fast asleep on the sofa. It's been like a fucking Mr. Bean episode. Happy Birthday kid, I tried 🤦♂️

Currently cleaning up Ilysha's Toffee Hoop Muller Corner which has been dropped all over her leg, the blanket, and the floor. She is currently crying because I'm "blaming her", when the fault apparently lies with the washing machine in the kitchen which apparently caused the yoghurt to "vibrate off the table". It was definitely not the fault of the person who balanced it precariously on the edge of the table because they couldn't be arsed to clear space for their dinner plate... 😐🙄

Frog has now advised me that she doesn't need take it her Mum's with her, because she is under the impression that next weekend I'm paying for taxis to do an 11-mile round trip in taxis to drop it her off. After seeing it mentioned in the Pushing Buttons newsletter back in August, and being described as "a strange, monochrome Zelda-like adventure where you only have 60 seconds to achieve something on each attempt" I was delighted to see Minit on offer for a few quid the other day on Steam so I snapped it up. I found the art style most reminiscent of Pokemon Red/Blue, and the game itself was interesting with a very weird mechanic whereby every 60 seconds you die and respawn at your current home, albeit carrying over items you've collected, and leaving your past influence on the world still in effect. Very creative puzzle game, though after completing it in a single sitting, I don't think I'll bother with a second run 👌
