Earlier, Phil (a work colleague) asked me how old Lysh was turning this year. I said 12. He say's, you must be coming up to 30 now then. Confused, I asked him to clarify what he meant. "You must be nearly 30yrs old" he says innocently. "I'm 37", I reply, bemused. "What?! Really!? I thought you were like, 28!", he responds incredulously ð No Phil, I didn't have Lysh when I was 16... ðĪŊ this follows on from the other week when Jude and Dee were also both shocked to hear how old I am. It's all quite amusing to me, because trust me, I definitely feel 37 years old! ðĪĢ

Been out for a couple scoops with Pete down the boozer ðŧ where we were befriended by some really impressive criminals who had recently come out of prison and had been bowling to celebrate. Me and Pete were proper jealous of how cool they were; it was truly enviable just how amazing and awe inspiring their criminal records were. If I were religious, I'd have shunned God, and defected to worshipping these criminals instead, because they were so phenomenally remarkable! I hope one day I can also be a criminal and can boast about it to strangers in the pub! It's now my biggest aspiration in life! ð after we left the pub, we popped back mine for a tinny under the guise it was just to round off the night when there was really the ulterior motive of showing Pete how funny The Stanley Parable is... ððŪ

Forced myself to persevere with Mass Effect with the caveat that I'm just going to forge ahead without obsessing over all the dialogue & codex's - even though I know it's relevant to understanding wtf is going on properly. The result is, I've actually enjoyed it a lot more, so maybe that's the key - stop being so overzealous when it comes to the lore. Just play the fucking game instead... ðŪ

Lysh busts into my room at 07:20ish and starts faffing in my window. "Aww, I wanted see the sunrise, but houses are in the way". I just lay there groggily, more asleep than awake. "I've been awake for an hour already. I can't get back asleep, I've been tossing and turning", she announces, "you can go back asleep, but I'm going downstairs." Ok. 2-minutes later, as I'm dozing back off her voice booms up the stairs. "Daaad, have we got Amazon Prime? I want to watch the Horrid Henry movie, but it says it's only on Amazon Prime and sign up for a free 30-day trial." Few minutes discussing why I can't easily just talk her through logging into it on her Xbox from my bed. Start dozing back off again. "Daaad, the third episode of The Amazing Digital Circus has been released!" Right, fine, I'll get up fuck sake. "Why? All I did was let you know." Obviously you're just going to keep shouting upstairs every few minutes and waking me back up so what's the point! 5hrs 40 sleep. Feel like a zombie, fuck sake. Get me some coffee, it's going to be a long day! ☕

Finished off the homework and it looks pretty fucking boss tbh. Layered sheets of plastic in cardboard framing, with stepping between each sheet, creating the illusion of a 3D cell suspended in water. Proper chuffed with the outcome (and so is Lysh ð).

[Playing Mass Effect]
Today I have played Mass Effect for approximately 11hrs straight. I get it now. I'm totally sold on the franchise. Admittedly I also watched a YouTube video the other day summarising the lore and history of the world and species which helped me grasp what was happening better. The building interiors and alien races remind me somewhat of Red Dwarf. The gameplay reminds me a little of Fallout 4 in exploration/combat/dialogue. Driving the Mako feels like I'm playing Rocket League, though some of the traversing over terrain can get tedious, frustrating, and repetitive at times. I've also realised that Melanie Martinez in her Portals era is just a pink Batarian. I have completed every Assignment I've found (with the exception of one on Feros that I've locked myself out of). My favourite squad is Liara & Tali'Zorah, with the latter being my favourite NPC. I love the Turian, Salarian, and Asari lore, but more so, I sympathise with the Quarians being forced out by the Geth, and the Krogan under the curse of the Genophage. Hell, I even feel bad for the Rachni... so much suffering! It took a while to crack through the surface of the game, but I'm glad I decided to... embrace eternity!

So, over the weekend, TJ dropped out of doing the Congleton Half Marathon because he has been struck down with illness ð·ðĪ I get work today and the cleaner is coughing her lungs up ð I query her onset of symptoms and declares she's had a positive Covid test this morning ððĪ§ I predict that this will continue to work it's way around the office in the coming days/weeks! ð

The plan was to get home from work and finish off Mass Effect ðŪ That is not how the night went at all ð Walking home I bump into Pete on his doorstep and after exchanging pleasantries, we agree to having a couple beers in an hour or so. I get in and line my stomach, then at 19:30 there's a knock at my door. Fast forward a few hours of chatting and putting the world to rights, and it's now almost 2am and I'm three sheets to the wind ððŧ I've even redownloaded Tinder at some point during the evening and been having a little swipe ðĪĢðĪ Going to be regretting my life choices in the morning I reckon! ð

Looking through Lysh's messages (because I consider her safety to be more important than her privacy) and come across some concerning messages & screenshots she's received from one of her friends... ðĻ her 11yr old mate is claiming to be in a relationship with someone "a few years older" with the conversations taking place via FB Messenger. Immediately alarm bells start going off. The person is declaring their love for her, showering her with compliments, and has already asked for a photo to be sent... They've also said about meeting up... I look straight on FB at the profile for who she's speaking with, and it's just a profile with random photos and no identifying information. There is another profile with the same name, from the same area, who is a lad seemingly in his twenties. My mind is immediately in worse case scenario mode and I've messaged her friends Mum and asked her to call me ASAP. Finished Mass Effect 1. Ngl, talking Saren into unaliving himself at the end felt very abrupt and jarring. The entire game you've been chasing down this villain who is hell bent on his chosen course of action... then in the final confrontation, on the cusp of defeat, you say "you silly man, you're being manipulated!" and he says, "damn it, you're right" and shoots himself in the head? I literally felt like convincing him to back down was absurdly, and unrealistically easy! ðŪ

Spoke to Lysh's friends Mum this morning on the way to work ððž She was grateful that I'd brought my concerns to her attention and said she would definitely take action. I told her what I knew, including the name on the FB profile, and she replied that he is a known quantity on her estate and is ~14/15yrs old. Reassuring that it's not some lad in his twenties after all! ð But needless to say she is not okay with her 11yr old daughter being "in a relationship" with a lad who is 14/15yrs old either, because the maturity difference at that age is going to be significant. I can definitely sleep easier now! ððž

Early finish from work to go Lysh's parents evening tonight, and it's been nothing short of amazing feedback all around ðĪ I got there early and had to try and identify which teacher was which before the appointments began ðð I spoke to Lysh's headteacher and English teacher before she turned up, but then she arrived and joined me to accompany me around the rest of them ðĨ° her English teacher noted that her reading level has slipped back to her current age when she was previously ahead, but otherwise she's doing great and her writing is absolutely superb, as is her presentation ð Her PE teach says she needs to try harder at running which is unsurprising but also not the end of the world; that was largely all she wanted to talk about, her inability to run fast ððž♀️ðĪ·ðž♂️ Her MFL teacher was thoroughly upbeat about her progress in German, which is unsurprising; Lysh is also learning Spanish on Duolingo off her own back, and seems to have a passion for it ðĪðž Her Science teacher says she's "the best particle", and that her dedication to the subject is refreshing given the typical gender bias in interest 𧎠Her Computing teacher admitted he'd only taught her for a couple weeks due to being off on paternity, but that overall they've had to start re-educating all the kids on the basics of MS Word because they don't seem to even know the fundamentals, which was a little concerning tbh but not a reflection on Lysh! ðŧ Her Art teacher observed that Lysh should put her hand up more to answer questions, because she knows the answers but opts to not contribute as much as she could; she was super complimentary about her artistic ability however, saying she clearly has a natural talent for art ðĻ And finally was her Music teacher, (and former form tutor for the past two years) who was perhaps biased but could not say anything other than how exemplary Bug is in her lessons ðĩ so there I have it! Super proud of her, and really grateful to hear such positive and endearing feedback for how well she's doing! ððĨ° She seems to be absolutely thriving ððž

I'd agreed to take Bug out for some tea at Gardeners Arms since I was up her neck of the woods for Parents Evening anyway ð Pint for me & a Pepsi for Bug ðŧ then I had a lovely Steak & Ale Pie with mash and veg, whereas Lysh had nuggies, smilies and spaghetti ðĨ§ðĨĶ then Lysh had a chocolate fudge cake for pud-pud ð° I was intending to catch the last bus home, but then Ash & Ree offered to give me a lift since they were going Lotus Blossom down Smallthorne for a Chinese takeaway anyway ððžððž

I have become astutely aware that my Facebook feed has devolved into 99% posts from Pages, Groups, Suggestions, and Adverts. I rarely see any actual posts or updates from friends or family, it's all just random memes and shitposts. Left 38 Groups I was in, and unliked/unfollowed 422 Pages. Go back onto my feed, and 6 out of the first 10 posts are all from one of the Groups I'm still in. Absurd. Guess I need to leave that one too! ðĪŊðĪŽ Pack it fucking in, Zuck.

They say setting boundaries is healthy, and that you should draw lines in the sand that you refuse to compromise on. That is healthy. Stop people pleasing. Stop being a doormat. Grow a spine. But I'd be lying to say it doesn't hurt, or suck, losing people you care about. People you thought would be there forever. Anchors. Constants. You tell yourself "I am important to them too, they'll compromise and reach out" and yet they don't. You think "we've been through so much, surely they are having similar feelings of loss?" but yet it's still radio silence. They make leaving you behind seem so effortless, so simple. Meanwhile you battle constantly against this undercurrent of thoughts pressuring you to surrender your morals and discard your integrity, to concede for the sake of the relationship - to accept the crushing weight of blame and shame. The voice tells you to just go back with your tail between your legs. But this time, you choose to dig in your heels, wait another week, trust in the process; and a week passes, and you're just 7-days further estranged from someone you fucking love so much. And every day that comes, you consider going against your better judgment, you consider accepting defeat and just being the bad guy. Fuck it, what's new? Because at least then you don't have to mourn the huge hole in your life they once occupied. But you know categorically, indisputably, that you're in the right this time. And sooner or later, something has to give, right? Otherwise, it's going to be the same rodeo until you die. Gaslit and convinced you're the problem every time. In the last year, we have seen Melanie Martinez TWICE for the Portals Tour and Trilogy Tour! TWICE IN ONE YEAR! We've celebrated Halloween at Snugburys, the Blood & Snow Pool Parties at Dimensions, Winter Wonderland, went Rhyl in freezing February, Inflatanation, you had loads of goes on Freak Out at Stanworths, had a couple of Hot Tubs, plenty meals out at various places for family birthdays, multiple visits to the cinema, and a 10-day all inclusive holiday to Club Calimera Serra Palace... and no doubt much more too! It's been another amazing year with you and I hope you've enjoyed it too! You are my favourite person! The absolute, undeniable best thing in my life! And I hope today is full of love and laughter, magic and memories! I can't wait to see you later and to celebrate another birthday with you! You make me proud to be your Dad every day! Entertaining and expensive afternoon at Flip Out with Lysh and a few of her friends ðĨģðĪ We got a taxi up to JBMS and grabbed Ava, Ivy and Lola. A very loud journey down to Flip Out with a lot of singing, opening of gifts, and inappropritate preteen girl banter! ðĩððŦ Once we got to Flip Out, we went in and got all sorted, then the girls headed down to the trampolines/inflatables and I sat reading some of my book ð☕ Within about 20-minutes they were all back in the cafe wanting drinks & snacks... and Ivy announced she had already got two warnings from the staff ffs! ðđðĪĢ Then Ava starts saying she can't see and having a panic attack by the till, and I have to carry her back over to the table where the manager comes to check if she's okay and brings some ice packs ðĪŠ I explain she has autism and she'll be fine once she calms down ðŽ shortly after, she's back to her usual self thankfully ððž and then they all leave me in peace again for a while. And that was pretty much the trend for the next hour or so. They'd pop back up for refreshments, then back off down to the arena. Then at half-3ish, after checking in with their parents that it's okay, I order them all some proper food to be ready for when they finish at 4pm ððð then I book a taxi for 16:15. All seems to be going well. Then Ava informs me that she has lost her glasses... ðĪĶðž♂️ I'm like, oh lord. They've been and looked by the trampolines - no dice. Then they went and checked at reception - nothing had been handed in. I spoke to the manager from earlier and he said he will radio around, but worst case, I'd have to leave my number so they can contact me if they're found after we leave... Ava is flapping at this point, worrying about how her Mum will react ð And I'm just like "Eat your food, I'll sort it". And off I go, with no idea how I'll sort it, just determination that I will ð I head down to reception, still nothing there. I head onto the arena floor and speak to a staff member - he reiterates what the manager had said, they'll look around and if they find them, someone will be in touch. Then absolutely astonishingly, as I am showing him a photo on my phone of Ava wearing the glasses so that he can see what they look like, by sheer miracle, I glance to the left and there they are! Just casually perched on a drinks ledge by the side of the exit gate! ð Honestly, you couldn't make it up! ðĪŊðĪĐ The staff member is shooketh, as am I! Actually couldn't believe it! So I put them on (loosely because my head is too big and I don't want to damage the frames) and then I casually walk back upstairs to the table where the girls are all sat eating. I approach the table and just nonchalantly ask "is the food good?" They look up at me, realise that I have Ava's glasses on, and then it's all gasps and shock and awe! ð Felt like a fucking superhero, can't lie! ðĶļðž The taxi is waiting on us at this point, so I have to rush the girls to get all their stuff together and say whatever food they have left they'll have to just take back with them. We load back up into the taxi and the poor driver endures another 45-mins of loud, raucous preteens ð we've just dropped Ava, Ivy, and Lola back at JBMS and now we're heading back home for another slice of the birthday cake and to sort out Lysh's stuff before Ree picks her up at 6pm! ð° All the kids have enjoyed it, they all seem happy, and I feel like this birthday weekend has been a total success! ðððž

Gameplay loop feels solid. Lots of moving parts that can be a little overwhelming at first. Each time I dive back in, my attention is pulled in multiple directions; blueprints, eco, ingredients, objectives - which just means you're quickly into the addictive cycle of "oh I'll just go back in quick and do that" - "may as well just do this quick" - "ahh I forgot to do that..." and thus several hours pass by before you realise it.

The game does not quit with throwing new features and functionality at you with each passing day... unfortunately it can quickly become exhausting rather than exciting. I make a plan of attack in my head of which objectives to tackle on my next dive, or a plan of which fish I want to catch to pad out the menu - then suddenly I'm waylaid with a side quest, or interrupted by a scripted event. I appreciate the need to keep players engaged and break up the monotony, but at the moment I feel like this game is geared toward people with ADHD... or those with the attention span of a goldfish. Also, as you level up your gear, the addictive game play loop of "morning dive - afternoon dive - open bancho" skews heavily toward the former with the dives taking upward of 10-minutes each. And a large part of that is navigating your way to the deeper regions to catch the rarer breeds or find the more valuable loot. I am hopeful that at some point you unlock a way to spawn in at a lower depth from the initial dive. Noticing some nice pop culture references & influences peppered in such as The Simpsons, Instagram, Pokemon, Skyrim which make me smile. Admittedly a little concerned I'm going to get bored with this before I finish it.

The website was a bit temperamental when I was ordering online, especially the address finder which had a mind of it's own and kept trying to choose a different address, or erasing what I had written. On the day of collection, I did not receive any updates to say the cake was ready and the order still showed as 'Pending' in my dashboard all the way up until I collected it. I arrived 10-minutes early to collect the cake and to my relief, it was ready and waiting. The member of staff who served me was very polite and helpful. The cake itself was absolutely incredible, I cannot overstate how good it tasted! I ordered the 10" and had concerns about whether it would be big enough for the occasion, but upon receiving it, I was pleasantly surprised at just how big it was. It was exactly as pictured, tasted divine, and came packaged in a beautiful pastel box. I will definitely be ordering from here again in future!

Couple beers with the big brother at Auctioneers since Spoons is closed for a refurb! ðŧ Upsetting to hear him acknowledge that he no longer feels part of the "inner circle" of the family, notably the observation that he cannot recall the last time anybody rang him for a chat ð Catching up on life events, he told me about his work stresses with long hours, car troubles involving hire car woes, extended families health issues, and ongoing difficulties with trying for a baby (including concerns that they've left it too late), whilst still living at his mother-in-laws ððĒ sounds like he has it rough at the moment, which makes me feel even worse about the awkwardness stemming from my argument with his wife last month ðĢ That elephant in the room was also inevitably discussed, although the subsequently heated conversation frustratingly lacked any meaningful identification of a way forward. After going around in circles debating fault and blame (including a fair share of circular reasoning), Terry's unwavering opinion remains that my actions at the end of that fateful night were unjustifiable - regardless of provocation. End of. Full stop. I was irredeemably in the wrong for "verbally attacking" his wife. It doesn't matter what happened before I lost my temper, or what had provoked it (which he conveniently claims to have not heard any of) ðĪ·ðž♂️ To quote Bill Burr on this: "When you say there’s no reason, that kills any sort of examination as to how two people ended up at that place. If you say there’s no reason, you cut out the buildup, you’re just left with the act. How are you gonna solve it if you don’t figure it out?" He doesn't want to figure it out - there is need to examine or discuss the buildup - because the act was unjustifiable regardless. That is the stance being taken. I still remain assured in myself that my reaction was justified in the context of the events. Yes, I lost my temper and shouted at his wife across a table. Do I wish I hadn't? Not really, if I'm being honest. Do I genuinely believe that it's largely Stacey's own fault for instigating the outcome? Absolutely. My position remains that if you mess with the bull, you get the horns. Nobody is above reproach and to say I believe otherwise would be a flat out lie. Actions have consequences, and so do words. Even if certain people believe you should be able to just say what you want without recourse or being held accountable... ððž♂️ The debate then segued into a discussion about Sammie's refusal to de-facto 'pick a side'. Just got home from the Blood Pool Party with Lysh, Sammie & Lance ðĨ° Off to a good start when Sammie nearly took her passenger side front wheel off on a kerb when we arrived ðŦĢð We had fun in the pool, bombing round the rapids, messing about in the whirlpool, and throwing each other in the air! ðððž♂️ It was all good until Lysh twatted her head in the Dragon Slide... and now I can barely see cause of the chlorine/dye in my eyes! ðĐļð

Woke up around 10ish and went downstairs dying for a coffee ☕ Lysh was already down there with Bonnie ðķ made us both some breakfast then went to have a shower and freshen up. Had a bagel for lunch ðĨŊ then we headed to Lower Drayton Farm to pick pumpkins and veg. Their parking was a joke and we ended up miles away, not even on a carpark. Headed over to the pumpkin patch and couldn't find a wheelbarrow anywhere either - I left everyone else and headed back to the start area. A staff member "paired me up" with another family to head back to their car with them and have their wheelbarrow once they'd emptied it ðĪŊ luckily en route to their car, a staff member came past with another wheelbarrow and I saffed that one instead ð once I was back at the patch, we took some photos, Bug made a Tik-Tok "PUMPKIN!", changed Tommy's nappy whilst standing in the middle of a field, and found us all a pumpkin each ð when it came to getting the veg, christ - I dug out a group of red potatoes with my bare hands and absolutely fucked my thumb, tearing the nail away from the skin behind it ð Lysh went get the sweetcorn and Lance found some fat ass carrots ððĨ there were no leeks left, but we left with 4x pumpkins, 4x beetroot, 4x sweetcorn, 16x carrots, 16x red potatoes, 16x white potatoes, and a partridge in a pear tree ðĨðĨð― me & Lysh washed all the produce off in a sink and then on the way out, Sammie agreed with staff that she could grab a freebie little white pumpkin for Tommy too ððĨ° then Lance brung the car around to save us having to carry it all back to where we'd parked up ððž been a successful mission! ð

Had a nice wander through the light tunnel, got some photos of the pumpkin carvings, and then spent £19 on two hotdogs ðĪ had a further wander, watched the live music stage, Lysh had a go on some big swing ride, and then we headed back to the cars since Sammie was in agony with her leg and also was working at the Cup from 9pm ð got back to the cars, then Lysh announces she needs the loo so we have to head back across to Frankie & Benny's... not like we're in a rush... ð Lance dropped us back at home so Sammie wouldn't be late for work. I've had to do a quick laundry load of last nights swimming stuff, and then I've gutted my pumpkin whilst Lysh has painted hers blue ððĩ she's now gone bed and I'm just wrapping things up myself before I hit the hay too ahead of Scarefest tomorrow! ðĒð§♂️

It's been a long and tiring day at Alton Towers ð I'm on like 27k steps ffs loool. Jord picked us up at 09:50ish and we met up with Sam & Lance on Towers carpark around half-10. Once inside our first official stop was Galactica since the queue was just a mere 20-minutes. Unprecedented! Next we headed to Curse at Alton Manor as it was only a 15-min queue. Then we grabbed some food; £9.50 for a hotdog ð and £6.99 for some masala fries ð afterwards we split up into two groups since me, Em & Jord wanted to go on The Smiler, whereas Sammie & Lysh were happy with the Spinball Whizzer (whilst Lance watched Tommy ðĻðĶ). Quite insanely, perhaps due to going on Single Riders queue, we were finished on Smiler first! ðĪŊðĩðŦ It was at this point it became impossible to not notice that there were traveller's/gypsy's everywhere; all the lads has the slicked back hair, whereas the girls were in flourescent clothing with excessive makeup. I was so confused as to what was going on to explain it and I cannot overstate how many there of them were present! ðĪ Next Me, Sammie, and Lance took Lysh onto her first and only Scare Maze... The Attic. That was all it took for Bug to nope out the rest of the scare mazes! ð So Lysh went with Emma & Jord to go on The Blade whilst me, Sammie, & Lance headed to go in the Altonville Mines and Compound Scare Mazes. We regrouped again afterwards and this time, me & Lysh shot off for Th13teen in the dark, whilst Lance, Emma & Jord went on Nemesis Reborn. Some young girls tried push past us in the queue and I was like nope, not happening. "I need get something off my cousin" - well, tell your cousin to come here and bring it to you ð After we were off the ride, I grabbed a bratwurst for Bug and an £11 burger for me ðð and then we waited for the others to come join us for our final ride of the day which was The Wickerman. The queue was long and included another queue jumper in a hoodrich vest who was telling me he could ring his mates further up the queue as proof he wasn't queuejumping ð Before we'd made it to the front to get on the ride, we'd stopped for ice lollies and I'd donated my coats to Lysh since she was getting so cold and wet ð§️ then as we were leaving Alton Towers, I bought me and kiddo some belgian waffles, strawberries and cream to eat on the way back to the car ð§ð which was a long tiring trek in the pouring rain. Lysh was absolutely done in at this point and fell asleep on the way back home ðī I had to wake her up to come inside and pack her stuff to take back her Mums, and then Lance kindly dropped her off ðĨ° ...and subsequently burst his tyre afterwards! ððĪĶðž♂️ I'm currently sat with a cold beer relaxing and feeling like it's been an action packed, non-stop, but really enjoyable weekend celebrating Halloween ❤️

[Playing Dave the Diver]
This game is such a damn rabbit hole... it's about 50 different games in one!! First it's just diving and catching fish which is reasonably intriguing. Then they add restaurant management including hiring and training staffing, upgrading the interior decor, enhancing recipes and procuring ingredients... They have multiple storylines overlapping involving fighting Boss sea creatures, discovering basically Atlantis complete with a community of Merpeople. Then you have Pokemon Cards added for tracking what fish you're catching. Then they introduce Farming and Aquarium management. Then there are other mini-games peppered in like a Beatsaber/Guitar Hero style minigame, a Rooftop Runner, even a fricking Tamagotchi! Oh yeah, they also have Seahorse Racing, Find the Pairs, and Crocodile Dentist... Hell, I just spent the last half hour playing "Jimbo's Game" (Balatro) which is basically a cross between Poker x Solitaire! ðŪð

So now she has reported them to the Police, Trading Standards, and Companies House... ðĪ·ðž♂️
