"One fear the Government has, says the Times, is that people won’t actually leave their homes and return to work if the lockdown is eased. It has whipped up the public into such a frenzy of blanket-clutching fear, aided and abetted by the hysteria of the mainstream media, that a significant percentage may not dare venture outside for non-essentials. According to polling by Ipsos Mori, more than 60% of people would feel uncomfortable going to bars and restaurants or using public transport after the lockdown is over, more than 40% would be reluctant to go shopping or send their children to school and more than 30% are worried about going to work or meeting friends. If you have children under 10, not sending them to school would be deeply silly. To date, only one child under 10 has died of the virus in the UK and children under 10 do not transmit it, according to Dr Ebere Okereke, a consultant in global public health for Public Health England. So no risk of children passing it on to their teachers – or their parents or their grandparents. Dr Obereke is basing this on a recent review of the evidence done by the Royal College of Paediatrics (RCP), but there’s corroborating evidence from the China/WHO joint commission which hasn’t uncovered a single instance of transmission from a child to an adult. Among the cases studied by the RCP is that of a nine-year-old English boy who contracted coronavirus in the French Alps but did not pass it on, despite having contact with more than 170 people at three schools. Does this mean Boris will announce that primary schools can reopen next week without a pointless and unenforceable insistence that pupils should remain two metres apart? We can but hope."

I predict lockdown easing, everyone back in work by May 26th, schools reopening June 1st after the end of May half term from the peer reviewed studies, scientific studies and advice from other countries and accredited epidemiologists, virologists and immunologists.

so from what I'm seeing, the country is divided like it's Brexit all over again. half of the country want out of lockdown because they're losing their financial stability, sanity and are seeing reports that more people will die due to the long term effects of deferred hospital appointments for unmanaged/undiagnosed health conditions, unavoidable austerity and suicide than directly from the virus. the other half want to stay in because they're being told hourly about how many more people have been infected and how many others have died, and are literally terrified for life to return to any semblance of normality until either the virus has completely disappeared or the big pharmaceutical giants rush out an under tested vaccine with no long term clinical trials for us all to be jabbed with in hopes it saves us all.
05/05/2020 @11:16
"When we see these very high levels of death, not all of them are the result of Covid-19. The last week we had records for the excess was approaching 12,000 deaths of which, I would suggest, between eight and 9,000 were Covid and the rest were what we call indirect deaths. Those could be for example people who would normally have gone into hospital for some reason but the beds were not available. I think it’s important to recognise there are indirect deaths as well as the Covid-related deaths. We have a piece from the Office of National Statistics that we’ve done jointly with the government actuaries department, the Home Office and Department of Health coming out in the next few days which will show also a third group which will come out over the next few years where changes in the prioritisation of the Health Service, for example, reductions in cancer screening, will lead to deaths over the next few years. And the final thing I’d just like to say: if we have a lengthy and deep recession then we know that can lead to increased deaths as people are pushed into lengthy periods of unemployment."

After digesting all the criticisms, concerns and public outcry with sharpened pitchforks, it has been decided that the UK is going to be stay in lockdown forever. This is the only way to please the masses. The Government is also being disbanded for their failings, since now 0.00047% of the population have died from this virus. Since the Gov can never get it right and there are always people complaining that they know better than the Government, we've decided it's easier to just get rid of it entirely. There you go, that's better now. Nobody can be angry or point fingers at who is to blame; time to take ownership for your own lives. The Government collects taxes to pay for the NHS, Police, Fire and Army. Since we no longer have a Gov, we no longer have public services unless we can sort out a way to fund them. Who has some money to chip in? By the way, you are now permanently unemployed and cannot claim benefits. You have zero income. Due to the ongoing lockdown, 90% of businesses have closed. You cannot claim benefits as they are paid by the Gov that no longer exists. Stay healthy and eat well, because we no longer have public healthcare either. Don't be a victim of a crime, because we no longer have a police force to help us. Shops are closed. Nobody has any money to buy anything so they cannot afford to stay open. Try not to starve to death without food. There are no airlines now either, and you couldn't afford to fly even if there was. Get comfy where you are because holidays are no longer a thing. All educational institutions are closing permanently; if you want your kids to be educated, you will need to teach them yourselves. Try to stay positive so you don't have a mental breakdown. Remember there is no health service to assist you. Don't commit suicide. Good luck.

I'd just like to apologise to anyone who has been upset/offended by my insensitive/dismissive commentary on the Covid situation. My intention is always to provide a less hysterical narrative than the one provided by mainstream media, never to detract from the serious and real world impacts on families who have lost loved ones. I suffer with anxiety, especially health anxiety which forces me to detach myself from topics like these to prevent myself having daily panic attacks. If I took everything at face value from mainstream reporting, I'd be living in utter terror and unable to function. As a result I revert to statistics and analytics to help me assess the risks more transparently, without influence from sensationalist hyperbole. This is purely for my own mental health. When I post these statistical observations, my hope is that it helps to alleviate the stress and worry that others may be experiencing. It's never to imply that there is no risks or loss of life caused by this virus. So again, apologies if my previous commentary has upset or offended anyone. ❤️

To summarise what BoJo said for those of you who got confused; Continue physical distancing to keep the numbers decreasing. If your place of work can accommodate physical distancing, and you can't work from home, get ready to return to work. Avoid public transport where possible to minimise the chance of exposure if you need to commute. You can go outside as much as you want but ensure you respect physical distancing. What BoJo didn't say: Lockdown is over. You can go see your family and/or mates now. Basically, continue to stay the fuck away from everyone else where possible. 👍

I always thought that "2 METRES" was a static measurement, however it seems that it's slightly bigger at a park than in a garden hence why it's only safe in a park but not in a garden. So that's good to know I guess.

"The Government is supporting millions of families and businesses, but cannot protect every job and every business." "Unemployment is rising from a 40-year low at the start of the year; around 1.8 million households made claims for Universal Credit between 16 March and 28 April.12 The OBR has published a ‘reference’ scenario which suggests that, if the current measures stay in place until June and are then eased over the next three months, unemployment would rise by more than 2 million in the second quarter of 2020. The OBR’s scenario suggests that GDP could fall by 35% in the second quarter of this year – and the annual contraction could be the largest in over 300 years." "The longer the virus affects the economy, the greater the risks of long-term scarring and permanently lower economic activity, with business failures, persistently higher unemployment and lower earnings. This would damage the sustainability of the public finances and the ability to fund public services including the NHS. It would also likely lead to worse long-run physical and mental health outcomes, with a significant increase in the prevalence of chronic illness." Documents from the UK Treasury estimate that to recover the £300,000,000,000 deficit caused by Covid-19, there will be a two year freeze on public sector pay, and end to the triple lock on state pensions, and increased taxes on wages and purchases. Yay.

Ask your children these questions: Ilysha aged 7.
What is the coronavirus? "I will assume you are referring to Covid-19 as opposed to other coronaviruses. A Coronavirus is a zoonotic disease that has transferred from animals to humans. Covid-19 is a respiratory infection that occurs as a result of the SARS-CoV2 coronavirus."
Who's the Prime Minister? "Boris Johnson of the Conservative Party, elected after smashing Jeremy Corbyn in the election by +163 seats."
How many days have we been in Lockdown? "The UK lockdown began on March 23rd meaning we have now been in Lockdown for 52 days."
Do you want to go back to school? "No, but I understand that not receiving a good education will seriously impact on my future career prospects, and the social development skills an educational environment nutures are essential to me growing into a well rounded adult."
Who do you want to hug when lockdown is over? "Just you Dad. Same as always."
Where do you want to go first when lockdown is over? "Swimming at Dimensions."
What can we do to get rid of the coronavirus? "We can't, to be blunt. Coronaviruses belong to the influenza family, and are never eradicated. They mutate into new strains constantly meaning any vaccine they produce would be obsolete within a year and would require annual boosters or revaccination for protection against the latest strain. Herd immunity is the best chance we have of adapting to live with it."
If coronavirus was an animal what would it be? "A phoenix, because it never dies and will just keep coming back."
How did the coronavirus start? "It was manufactured in a P4 epidemiological lab in the Wuhan province of China after being isolated from a bat in the caves of Nanning by Shi Zhengli, a Chinese virologist."
If you had to wear protective clothing to help protect yourself from coronavirus what would it be? "Protective clothing is about as useless as those overpriced, disposable masks people are wearing. The only PPE that would protect you completely would be a fully encapsulating GTB Type 1A - ET reusable gas tight suit."

UK; First case of Covid: 31st Jan.
Response: Lock-down since 23rd March.
Death Rate: 0.050%.
Sweden; First case of Covid: 31st Jan.
Response: Relaxed semi-shutdown. Gatherings of more than 50 people are banned, but Swedes have continued eating in restaurants, shopping, going to work, getting haircuts, and sending children under 16 to school.
Death Rate: 0.036%

"Politics, as opposed to science, does not reward the correction of mistakes, given that correcting a mistake also entails admitting to having made one. Worse, the bigger the mistake, the greater the political urgency of defending it at all costs. Boris and co are therefore obliged to keep justifying the lockdown, which means continuing to exaggerate the contagion’s risk to life."

"Neither Sweden nor Japan have locked down so, if the lockdown hypothesis were true, Stockholm would by now be a morgue and Greater Tokyo (population 38 million) a necropolis. In Sweden, Professors Giesecke and Tegnell have managed the epidemic within Sweden’s healthcare capacity without suspending civil liberties or shutting down schools or society (Sir Patrick Vallance’s “Plan A”), with no greater death-toll than our own. The Free Swedes pointed out all along that lockdown would be much easier to get into than out of: no kidding, we’re in an eel-trap."

"In Britain, it was the voice of one person – Neil Ferguson – who has a history of coming up with projections that are a bit odd. His paper was published eventually, in medRxiv. The assumption was that 1% of all people who became infected would die. There is no justification anywhere for that. Let us say the epidemic runs with a basic reproduction rate of around two. Eventually 80% of the population will be immune, because they have been infected at some point in time. 80% of the British population would be something like 50 million. 1% of them dying is 500,000. That is where Ferguson’s number came from. But we knew from the very beginning that neither in Wuhan nor in South Korea did 1% of all people infected die. South Korea has 60 million people. It is about the same size as the UK. How many deaths were in South Korea? Did they shut down? No."

I track the daily NHS figures that are released, to compare day-to-day changes in the data. I'm trying to understand this if anyone has any ideas; todays new data has revised the figures previously announced for March 29th and March 30th, reducing them by 175 and 113 respectively. How are they discovering now, 9 weeks later, that the data is that incorrect? This isn't the first time either, on several occasions they adjust death tolls to lower than previously stated, but never by this amount, and never for this long ago.
21/05/2020 @15:42
Update with latest stats for you all in UK. *note, the populations are based on 2yrs ago as most recent census data isn't available; the latest data suggests however that the total population is now ~68,000,000 meaning the actual cases/hospital/deaths are an even smaller percentage.

Spain have extended their lockdown until June 7th and made wearing masks compulsory. And you have to buy the masks yourself. They've predicted the cost for a family of 4 to be €100 per month buying masks. If you get caught not wearing a mask, it's a €600 fine... 😳

The longer lockdown continues, the more companies will go into administration, and the more furloughed staff will end up laid off once the scheme ends as there will be no jobs to return to. Without the economy, there will be a lot less money for people to spend, which means companies will not have the income from sales to pay surplus staff nor the demand to justify employing them. Make no mistake, if the economy does not reopen soon, we're looking at millions of staff being forced into longterm unemployment by August. With it comes the problem that without income tax from those employees wages, there is no money to run public infrastructure including the NHS. We cannot float the country on massively increasing debt indefinitely. We cannot nationalise the private sector. Remember this when you keep fighting to keep lockdown in place for longer than necessary. Kids education is being destroyed, the housing market has already collapsed, and a predicted 21,000 stores are going to go bankrupt resulting in mass unemployment. 0.0005% of the UK population have had their deaths attributed to Covid-19. Excess Mortality not too disimilar to 2018. Children have a 1 in 5,955,000 chance of dying. Worst economic recession in 300 years. Projected additional 2,000,000 workers to be made unemployed. At what point do people wake up and see the long term damage being caused?

Latest best estimate of Case Fatality Rate for Covid-19 from the CDC is 0.4%. Compare that to the estimate of 3.4% from WHO which resulted in the lockdowns. Looking at CFR's for other things makes me think we should have had lockdowns loads of times based on the data and the "need" for a lockdown now:
Flu: < 0.2%.
Spanish Flu: 2.5%.
SARS: 11%.
MERS: 35%.
Bird Flu: 60%.
Ebola: 85%.

"I think we're going to see numbers continue to grow unfortunately and I don't think it'll be immediate. I think the long-term effects of the COVID-19 are going to be devastating." A study by public health group Well Being Trust warned that as many as 75,000 Americans could die because of "deaths of despair" brought on by drug or alcohol abuse and suicide as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. 🥴

"The Prime Minister has set out: outdoor markets and car showrooms will be able to reopen from 1 June, as soon as they are able to meet the COVID-19 secure guidelines to protect shoppers and workers. As with garden centres, the risk of transmission of the virus is lower in these outdoor and more open spaces. Car showrooms often have significant outdoor space and it is generally easier to apply social distancing. all other non-essential retail including shops selling clothes, shoes, toys, all furniture stores, books, and electronics, tailors, auction houses, photography studios, and indoor markets, will be expected to be able to reopen from 15 June if the government’s 5 tests are met and they follow the COVID-19 secure guidelines, giving them 3 weeks to prepare"

anyone else find it mad how cheap global trade is? like, I'm eating a banana from the Volta River Estates, Ghana. A bunch of 7 bananas cost £1. That includes the costs of picking, packing, shipping and delivering to Co-Op in Sneyd Green. And presumably Co-Op take a small profit from that too. Mad when you think about it.
