Monthly Musings: July 2022

An overview of opinions and observations for the month.

[@AlanRMacLeod: "Expect to hear a lot more about human rights in Uganda in the coming years."]["Uganda discovers gold deposits worth 12 trillion USD"]

Google have just notified me they're deleting Ilysha's YouTube channel because she is younger than 13 years old. She's had the account for over 2yrs at this point, around a hundred videos, and double digit subscribers which she's proud of. Thanks Google, kids crying now.

This is the first year of Charlie not acknowledging me on Fathers Day. After not receiving a text or call on June 19th, I thought perhaps he was just busy and didn't realise the date, but clearly not: no gift, no card, not even a verbal acknowledgement today when he's visited me.

I've only drank alcohol 1 day out of the last 152, and that was my brother Moz's 30th birthday (which was 85 days ago). I can't deny that life seems so much emptier without alcohol insofar as I seem to have so much more white noise and empty time to occupy, but I think that's more because I do not socialise anywhere near as much now. I just stay home and keep myself busy. In related news, it's 184 days (over 6 months) since I quit vaping at New Year. I guess I really am trying to embody that health is wealth mantra.

What kind of flawed logic has been adopted by companies who design mobile adverts with tiny dismiss icons? If I don't want your app, forcing me to inadvertently click on it (by making the little "x" icon up the corner fucking minuscule) is not going to convince me to download it. Same goes for apps trying to get you to pay for premium/subscription; if I don't want it; trying to coerce me will just further strengthen my resolve. Stop. Oh, and I swear to fuck I am sick to death of seeing adverts for 'Evony' - I don't want it and bombarding me with 100 adverts a day will not change that...

All these Tory resignations annoy the fuck out of me, especially Savid Javid and Rishi Sunak. The astronomical damage this pair of pretentious pricks have done to healthcare and the economy, they should not get to  just 'pass the buck' now. Rats leave sinking ships. Zero integrity, and zero accountability. Cunts.

07/07/2022 @18:39
Bye, bye, #BoJo. Who will be the next Globalist approved puppet to take his place? Hmm...

08/07/2022 @13:34
Went football last night up Powerleague and managed roll my right ankle. Fun times. Awoke today barely able to walk and with next to no range of motion. Threw a whitey from the pain whilst getting ready for work, ultimately ended up sacking off work and having my sister run me up the hospital to get it checked out to ensure it was only ligaments, and no fracture/break. Triage confirmed it's ligament damage, potentially Grade 2, and I'm back home remembering fondly when I could walk properly. Fuck sake!

Ilysha's latest favourite saying: "Dad, I'm still hungry." Anybody would think we live in the third world and exist on rations.

10/07/2022 @11:23
Current mood; Ilysha is kicking off and literally crying because I partially unfolded a piece of cardboard she had folded.

11/07/2022 @20:35
Attending Ilysha's Leavers Concert at school tonight has been both endearing and heartbreaking. She is growing up and embarking on her next chapter of education, and I was honoured to be there and see her singing, dancing, and celebrating the end of the current one. At one point the kids all brought flowers to their parents, and when Frog came over and handed it to me, my heart just melted. I am so lucky to have such a loving, wonderful child.

I've been reading a book called "The Courage to be Disliked" which investigates the psychology of Alfred Adler. Found many of the arguments very thought provoking; some of the key takeaways from the book are: 'we control our emotions, and use them to manipulate others into treating us a certain way', 'all problems are interpersonal relationship problems', 'problems are not of a lack of ability, but a lack of courage''you should treat all interpersonal relationships horizontally as equals, not vertically as a hierarchy of value', 'life is energial, a series of moments, not a kinetic linear path', and 'happiness is found in being of use, of value; that is found by contributing to others - when people seek recognition and desire for societal approval, when we people please, this is to fulfill the sense of value, to acquire a sense of worth'.

14/07/2022 @13:47
Well well well, if it isn't the consequences of your actions. Co-parenting is... fun?

17/07/2022 @21:03
Attending a school where the curriculum consists of "going to Flip Out, Ninja Warrior, Inflato, Bowling, Cinema, Waterworld, Arcades every week... going the the park when you feel like it... going out for a bike ride as a lesson... swearing at teachers, going for a vape when you're stressed out, 'teachers' buying you tracksuits from JD Sports or taking you to airsoft/BB gun shops, meanwhile your actual 'academic lessons' only last 15 minutes" does not equate to receiving an education in my eyes. It is, instead, utterly ridiculous. I fail to understand how problem kids can transition from this, to being functional adults in society and the real world. I seriously worry about Charlie's future, no matter how many times he tries to reassure me that "it will be fine". He is being enabled in this fantasy world where you just get whatever you want with no concern for the financial costs, and everyone just let's you do as you please. This is not representative of real life.

18/07/2022 @09:12
It's my Frog's last day at First School today!! Where does the time go?! After today, the next chapter of her education will begin at Middle School in September!!

18/07/2022 @17:07
The sun is a deadly laser! Current temperature: 35°C

I was today years old when I learned the origin of my Dad saying: "We can rebuild him. We have the technology" a lot when I was a kid. [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071054/]

Came across a funny article that stated: "It turns out there is a specific dollar number, or income plateau, after which more money has no measurable effect on day-to-day contentment." So I'm like, go on then, how much? The article was written in 2010, so I adjusted for inflation using OfficialData.org, then chucked the output back through XE.com for good measure, and the answer is... ~£85k p/a. So, an absurd amount that is unobtainable for the majority of the population. What makes this even more dumb, is that it's value is entirely dependent on where the money is spent since living costs and commodity prices are not globally static. What £85k would get you in London is considerably different to what it would get you in Bucharest. For clarity; a three bed terraced house in SW3 4JL will run you around £2,000,000... for the same price you could buy a ten bedroom villa complex with 8 bathrooms in Pipera, Bucharest. So how exactly can you determine this fixed figure?

20/07/2022 @11:45
Were concerns about microchips in Covid vaccines really so outlandish? ๐Ÿคฏ "When a magnetic field is switched on nearby, those 'iron oxide nanoparticles' heat up, causing the neurons to fire and the fly to adopt the spread-wing pose." [https://newatlas.com/science/fly-brains-hack-remote-controlled/]

20/07/2022 @21:02
I may just be a sigma... ๐Ÿ‘€

22/07/2022 @19:34
Buggo always says I get distracted by my phone whilst she's with me, so I've deleted Facebook & Messenger, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn, and LINE. On top of previously deleting Twitter, I'm really making a play at keeping myself off social media by not having it accessible. Partial digital detoxing, feeding my anti-social introversion, and making myself more available and present for kiddo - all at the same time. Triple win. ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿšซ

23/07/2022 @11:04
Power struggles with a nearly 10-year old over healthy eating just makes me feel like I'm failing as a parent. So worried she will end up obese, but she emotionally manipulates me until she gets her own way, and I don't have the strength to not give in.

23/07/2022 @16:06
Alarm goes off at swimming; evacuated out the pool right as Ilysha was next to go on the Dragon Slide. Thanks Dimensions, kids crying. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

24/07/2022 @19:23
Go B&M with a list that comes to £80. Leave after spending £150. Typical. Get back home to discover the curtain drop is too short. Go back to B&M in the pouring rain, and spend another £25 exchanging the curtains for longer ones (and a compact umbrella). Lmao, FML. At least kiddo is chuffed with her new bedroom, so it hasn't been a wasted venture! New curtains, rug, bedding, bunting, lightshade, storage, plants, a fricking artificial ivy wall, and even a suitcase!

25/07/2022 @08:02
Ilysha woke me up this morning and asked if she could immediately have a shower. I honestly panicked and thought there was some concerning reason why!

25/07/2022 @19:19
Overfaced ha! Ran ourselves ragged at Inflato, even left early proper sweaty and done in! Went in the Desserts area and had a cheeky tub of ice-cream & slushie to cool us down, then went round Maccies for tea lol. Lysh was ambitious with a 20 nugget sharebox, but when its £4 for 9 nuggets, or £5 for 20... well, obviously you pay the extra quid. Currently both done in on the sofa! ๐Ÿฅต

26/07/2022 @10:53
Woke up at 7am, turned off alarms, fell back asleep - woke back up at 07:30 and had to rush to get ready. Nipped Starbucks because Lysh wanted a Banana Split Frappuccino; at the last minute, she changes her mind for a Passionfruit & Raspberry Frappuccino instead. 10 minutes later as we're walking, she announces she doesn't like it *facepalm*. Got Hanley on time and jumped on the 32X to Alton Towers. Currently in the bar waiting to go into swimming, with a very excited Frog!! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜Ž

26/07/2022 @20:27
Been a brilliant day. Ignoring the financial damage for now and just appreciating how much fun we've had. Lysh made a friend called Serene (sp?) from the Isle of Man and spent a good solid hour racing her down the outdoor (Flash Floods) slides. My little Frog even came on the Master Blaster, and Rush & Rampage slides - really proud of her! And to top it off, at one point an actual duck landed in the outdoor pool and was having a swim (and after getting crowded by kids, a massive freak out!!). Amazing day! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿค—

26/07/2022 @21:55
Always begrudge paying the rip-off prices for these souvenirs, but you just have to suck it up or miss out! Let's be real, £12 for a photo is extortionate AF! ๐Ÿคฌ

27/07/2022 @18:50
Been a quiet one doing some overdue domestic duties, then making stickers with Frog before grabbing a Starbucks, heading down Hanley Forest Park, then onto Morrisons Cafe for tea. Nice catch up with Sammie. Kids eat free was a lie though. Screw you Morrisons with your dumb T&C's. ๐Ÿ˜‘

28/07/2022 @11:27
That point of the week where I realise there's only a couple days left until Frog goes home ๐Ÿฅบ

28/07/2022 @16:11
Had an ice cream together at Hanley Forest Park. Lysh's slider clasp snapped off. Absolutely fucked it mate. Saw some super granny on the park going on all the equipment. Went Hanley and bought Frog some new footwear. She wanted try some bubble tea; bought a can for £1.99. She didn't like it. Neither did I, but I forced it down me. Not wasting £1.99 mate. ๐Ÿคช

28/07/2022 @16:39
Went to Hanley Beach with Frog. Barriers were around it but we went in anyway. Lasted about 10 minutes before we were told we had to get out because it was closed due to "it not being sunny". Not sure why the weather is relevant to a public access sand pit? It's a 1ft deep sand pit mate, not the Sahara, fuck sake. ๐Ÿ™„

28/07/2022 @17:04
Just been in Maccies and the staff member tried give us half a McFlurry after charging me £1.69. I queried it, and the staff member went and filled it up properly... like it should have been to begin with. Swear, these McFuckers take liberties at every opportunity. ๐Ÿคฌ

29/07/2022 @11:12
Arguing with Frog about the need to wear socks with her new trainers... Full on melt down about it. "You're making me doing something I don't want to!" Yeah Frog, just like when you were a toddler and you wanted piss on the living room floor and I made you use a potty - sometimes a parent has to make you do stuff you don't want to. Ended with her wearing her sliders instead. ๐Ÿ˜ค

29/07/2022 @13:24
Frog has just hurt her toes on a twig because she's wearing sliders. Wouldn't have happened if she was in trainers. Or socks probably. ๐Ÿ‘€

29/07/2022 @14:04
Been in Flip Out for 4 minutes. Lysh is already exhausted. 1hr 56m left.

29/07/2022 @14:28
Bought Lysh a Strawberry Drift slushie (her choice) at Flip Out. Got charged £5 for it. Checked receipt - should've been £3.50. Disputed it and got a £1.50 refund. Like £3.50 wasn't overpriced enough already for a cup of 80% ice. Oh, and to top it off, Lysh didn't even like the slushie. ๐Ÿฅด๐Ÿ˜ค

29/07/2022 @16:21
Left Flip Out early. Lysh was insisting on going outside every 8 minutes for cool air as she was overheating. I also may have accidently punched a small child in the head. Now standing at a bus stop being attacked by flying ants. Lysh is currently using her umbrella as a shield. Living the dream mate. ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™ƒ

29/07/2022 @22:34
Spent all night playing Minecraft with Frog. Missed quiet nights gaming together, honestly thought she may have outgrown this. Glad she hasn't. ๐Ÿฅฐ

30/07/2022 @16:11
Our last day together for this week has been spent playing Minecraft and doing some arts & crafts together watching Netflix. Happiness in simplicity. Had to explain to Lysh earlier that weeks like this aren't representative of real life, and that it's cost £485 for us to have the fun we've had - that's not something we could afford to do every week. It's been a fun week of holiday activities to celebrate another year of success at school. Something to look forward to each year, like a Birthday or Christmas. Hope she has fun when she goes back home; I'm sure she'll be happy to see her Mum, stepdad Ash, her stepsister Izzie, and her dogs (Ted and Nala), even if she will miss me after having such a fun week together. I know the house will definitely seem quieter, and my life will undoubtedly feel emptier for a few weeks... ๐Ÿฅบ

30/07/2022 @22:12
This "The Most Hated Man On The Internet" is as amusing as "The Tinder Swindler" when it comes to  the real world consequences of people's own poor life choices. Not convinced that all these females were hacked considering the success of Only Fans. Clearly most women have zero dignity or self respect if there is money to be made or clout to be gained... ๐Ÿคจ๐Ÿ™„

31/07/2022 @09:32
A year ago today, I caught Covid, the worlds most deadliest disease that led to the wholesale destruction of life as we knew it... ๐Ÿคก Lucky to be alive I guess... ๐Ÿ’…
