Late to the party insofar as it being "a trend" but I am totally here for 'deinfluencing' & 'underconsumption core' for countering materialism and grounding people back in reality. It's not normal to own a house at 18yrs old, or to be a senior manager of a multimillion pound business by 21yrs old, or have 8 holidays a year. You don't need to be buying new stuff every day. You don't need a new car, phone, wardrobe, or whatever else every year. You don't need the new shiny thing; you're not a magpie. It's been my mindset for the longest time (just without the label and hashtags) & I've always struggled to understand how others remain so oblivious to it. Like overpriced clothing brands, or designer cosmetics. I don't 'get it'. I typically cite that Fight Club quote (IYKYK). Social media is largely a demo reel of best bits. Unfortunately, it's a fucking large ass tapestry of overlapping best bits of all your connections. And so it can overwhelmingly seem like your life is lacking in comparison. It's okay to not be living your dream at 30yrs old. Fuck, most of us haven't actually got our shit together, not properly anyway. We're all just winging it tbh. So stop worrying and just focus on what truly matters. 'Comparison is the thief of joy' and all that jazz. Regulate your perspective. Simplify your life. To even be reading this status, you are more truly blessed than you'll ever comprehend. Practice gratitude. Appreciate more. Love y'all, so chin up 😘 Oh, and thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

It's one of those typical ones which has a mirror with the big bulbs all around it 💡 Well, it's just been delivered and it geniunely looks like it's done 12-rounds with Mike Tyson 🥊 (and not the one who "lost" to Jake Paul!). The box looks like a fucking chicken nugget it's that battered. 📦

This kid 🤦🏼♂️ It's half an hour until the taxi is picking us up for the Snow Pool Party. I'm making us lunch. Look in the living room, Lysh has now decided to paint Jam's hoody on a whim. She's not bothered to put her apron on (despite me laying it out right beside the hoody) so now she's spattered white fabric paint over her stussy top and ruined it! 🎲 All because she couldn't be arsed to put her apron on! 😤🙄

Just watched American Psycho 🪓🍺 Unsure if I've ever seen it before, but what a bizarre film! I have so many unanswered questions. Is the protagonist really Patrick Bateman or actually Davis (a la Tyler Durden)? Did he just imagine all the violent altercations because he's fucking wacko? Is Paul Allen actually dead? Or is the lawyer's claim to having lunch with him just another example of mistaken identity which repeats throughout the film? How could the chase sceen that culminated in the chainsaw stairwell incident occur without anyone witnessing it? Obviously the ATM scene clearly illustrated he was losing touch with reality - however the ensuing scene including the police car explosions - how could that actually happen and him not be caught? So it must have just been in his head, right? But then - was it all in his head? Just sick violent fantasies? Look at the scene with the real estate agent at the apartment where he left all the bodies - the way she reacts suggests that at least something had happened there? So surely not just all imagined? Then is the whole film a social commentary on how oblivious we are to what is happening under our noses? Or is it a reflection on the detached and sociopathic tendancies of people with power and influence? And how even the most heinous crimes can be swept under the rug if you have enough money? I am so adrift in a sea of ambiguity. It's dark as fuck either way and definitely gets you thinking!

Ordered an item on Prime that was due for delivery on Dec 2nd. Didn't arrive. Got an update saying "sorry it's running late and is now expected on the 4th". Didn't arrive on the 4th either. Get another update on the 5th saying "sorry your parcel may be lost". The recommended action is to get it refunded/replaced. Since it's a Xmas gift, I'd rather not gamble on it turning up so I cancel the order and apply for a refund. I then immediately order a replacement on the 5th which is delivered the very next day, on the 6th. Today I get an email from Amazon. Apparently the original parcel has been found and is now out for delivery today... 😂🙃

Nipped shop and bought a 50cl bottle of Amaretto to drink whilst wrapping, such is tradition 🎁🥃 I wrapped the presents whilst drinking the booze. All of it. I've literally drank the entire bottle. All 50cl 😐😂 In for a penny, in for a pound, right? Fuck. Messaged Pete. Grabbed some tinnies for later, then popped down Forresters again. One thing I never see other parents acknowledge is how less stressful it is when kids grow up and you no longer need to lug around buggies, and nappy bags, and changes of clothes, and drinks, and snacks, and all the other stuff... Jeez. I do not miss that part of parenting at all! 🙌🏼😮💨 Getting ready go out now & all I'm taking is my phone, keys & wallet... 🤗

Had a lovely time at Winter Wonderland with Lysh 🥰 we've hammered pretty much all the rides for 4hrs; Joker, High Energy, Super Trooper, Freak Out, Take Off, Sizzler, Police Academy, Waltzer... (I didn't go on Freak Out, but Lysh went on it SEVEN TIMES the adrenaline junkie!!) 🥴 the only ride we both actively noped out of was Extreme because I am 100% convinced I'd vomit afterwards given how intense the spinning looked! 🤮 Some poor bloke ended up on Freak Out because his wife was too chunky for the seat harness, so he was subbed in to join his kid... and he came off it absolutely terrored which was hilarious since I'd been telling him how rough it was right before he ended up on it! 😭😂 We've gorged ourselves on hotdogs, burgers, fries, crepes, and doughnuts 🌭🍔🍟🍩 as soon as we'd arrived we saw Ivy, Gracie and Maisie... then we bumped into Lo & Keanu with Joe & Oak... then we saw Tom Gibson & had a brief exchange... and finally my mukka Caineo too! Always nice to see friendly faces when I'm out and about at these events! 🤗😁 after we'd got a taxi home, Lysh was tucked up in bed within an hour absolutely done in, saying she was freezing cold and had a bellyache! 😵 be going bed soon myself, suspect she'll have me up at the crack of dawn 😩😪

(I didn't go on Freak Out, but Lysh went on it SEVEN TIMES the adrenaline junkie!!) 🥴 the only ride we both actively noped out of was Extreme because I am 100% convinced I'd vomit afterwards given how intense the spinning looked! 🤮 Some poor bloke ended up on Freak Out because his wife was too chunky for the seat harness, so he was subbed in to join his kid... and he came off it absolutely terrored which was hilarious since I'd been telling him how rough it was right before he ended up on it! 😭😂 We've gorged ourselves on hotdogs, burgers, fries, crepes, and doughnuts 🌭🍔🍟🍩 as soon as we'd arrived we saw Ivy, Gracie and Maisie... then we bumped into Lo & Keanu with Joe & Oak... then we saw Tom Gibson & had a brief exchange... and finally my mukka Caineo too! Always nice to see friendly faces when I'm out and about at these events! 🤗😁 after we'd got a taxi home, Lysh was tucked up in bed within an hour absolutely done in, saying she was freezing cold and had a bellyache! 😵 be going bed soon myself, suspect she'll have me up at the crack of dawn 😩😪

[Playing Assassins Creed Valhalla]
Began playing over a fortnight ago and after putting a few hours in, I really was not feeling it. Pacing felt off, movement felt clunky, combat felt sluggish, environment felt bleak. I was just not compelled to play it whatsoever. As a huge fan of the franchise, I felt that I *should* like it, if I can just forge ahead through the early content, maybe I'll begin to enjoy it. I'm now 8hrs in, and I've just arrived in England which feels like a shift in tone. I also feel like the game is opening up a bit more now and that I will be able to explore within the sandbox, without needing to spend 25 IRL minutes climbing over a mountain range to reach my destination.

The Click and Collect service in TK Maxx is ass. Bought something online for Click and Collect. I wander in and cannot see any signage for where to go; then I spot a freestanding board saying "Click and Collect here, press the button and await attendance". There is no button. My arms ache after naively carrying an 8.5kg box from Hanley to Smallthorne... but at least that's the last of the gifts wrapped and nestled under the tree! 🎄🎁 I've managed to trip the sockets in my living room and had to dig my way back to the fuse box ⚡🤦🏼♂️ my throat is feeling dicey AF so I've had a jalfrezi to give it something to cry about 🍛🤣 ...and now I'm going get Valhalla back on for a couple hours before bed! 🍺🎮

I've done a couple chores but mainly just vegged with Lysh playing Minecraft 🎮 I've done the dishes, laundry, and a second coat of black on the canvas 🎨 I've made us homemade pepperoni pizzas since it's Bug's current fave 🍕 then hilariously just before leaving Lysh informs me she has a pair of wet and dirty jeans in a carrier bag in her bedroom that she's forgotten to give me before I did the washing 🙃 and now she's gone back her Mum's so I've got the night ahead to myself. There doesn't seem to be any studies available on Prolific, and I feel compelled to be productive, so I'm going to just crack out the amarula and sort through my PC I guess since my remaining disk space is 5GB... 🥃

Gratitude is funny man, it's funny. It really makes you stop and just appreciate. It's crazy to me, that this right here, this was it. This was the extent of the dream. A decade or so ago, life was fucking awful man. Life was grim. And this is what I prayed for. This. To some, this will look like a little piece of shit existence. But man, if you could see the fucking battles, the fucking wars that I have won to have this. The obstacles overcame. Man... psshhhh. And I am so fucking blessed, so fucking eternally grateful. To be where I am right now. I am so fucking appreciative. Because I got to experience this. This right here, that likely looks like fuck all to most people. Because we all compare too much, especially in the age of social media. And I'm not rich, or famous, no mansion, no supercar, no supermodel missus... I don't meet any of these standards that people use to gauge success. The mind is funny, our human nature is funny. Because none of that matters. It really doesn't. The novelty wears off and we feel like we need the next shiny thing, but I promise you, just learn to take a breath and realise how far you've come. How much you've achieved. How fucking proud of yourself you should be. Fuck, man. I am so content. I am so fucking lucky. And so grateful. Always so grateful.

Fairly certain I saw visible flashes of electric behind the board at one point too ⚡ Message my estate agent and their recommendation is to run an extension cable from an adjacent room. They also advise they may not be able to get anyone out this close to Xmas as their usual electrician has finished now and gone away! 🤨

This Christmas Buffet at work is problematic. I'm a bit rough around the edges from last night, and having a room full of finger food is proving very alluring. Every time I pop in to make a drink, I also find myself pillaging whatever bits and pieces are readily available. Gonna put on about 3st today I rate 🤣

Little baby shift at work including a gift off Letty 🎁 followed by a swift Christmas pint at Spoons with Matt & TJ 🍺 nice to see Shauno & Haslem in there too 💯 then Reg gave me a lift back home so now I'm having some lunch 🍜 then I just need to get this last present wrapped up and then tidy up ahead of Bug being dropped off later! 💛

Woke up a little later than intended, but 9am isn't too bad aha. First time ever waking up with Lysh on Christmas morning 🥹💛 we sat together under the tree and took our time opening up all our presents 🎄🎁 both of us are so appreciative and grateful for the well wishes and generosity from those we hold dear 🥰 Sending love to you all! Been for our expensive festive dinner at Brindley Farm 🤑🍗 all the staff were super friendly and polite. Had a lovely pint of Rocking Rudolph ale 🍺 Bug was annoyed to discover they've removed the £1 machine where you get the toys out of! The food was fairly decent - Lysh's garlic bread starter was a bit underwhelming though... 🧄🍞 When I went up to get my carvery, I said Merry Christmas to the bloke who carves the meat and he said I was the first person to say it to him all day - pretty heartbreaking really that all preceding guests had overlooked such a simple thing! 🥹 We had the option of taking our desserts home instead of eating in, but the tick slip advised that ice-cream/cream would not be included with any takeout... and Lysh's entire dessert was "Build a Snowman" which was 99% ice-cream! 🤪 Needless to say we ate dessert there! 😂

Bug was picked up at 18:30 to go spend some of Christmas with her Mum, Stepdad & Stepsis (she'll be back Friday morning) 💛 so I've cuddled up alone on the sofa and watched Home Alone, Scrooged, and It's a Wonderful Life under the ambient glow of the Xmas lights 📺🎄 whilst supping IPA, Amarula & Mozart cream liquer, and munching down Roses & KP Dry Roasted nuts 🥃🍫 feeling fuzzy, content, and at peace with the world. We'd previously agreed Lysh would be coming back over at 9am this morning, but 10:30am had rocked around and it was still radio silence. No Lysh and no update saying why. I'd Snapped Lysh and had no reply, so I popped Ree a polite message asking what the situation was... 👀 So, turns out Ree had it written down that Lysh was coming at the usual time tonight... plus Lysh was still asleep! 🤦🏼♂️😂 Ree woke her up and I asked Lysh what her preference was (since I know her stepsister is there and I understand if she wants spend more time with her), and she's opted to come over later 🫡 ...so I've got another day alone by myself I guess! Which tbf will give me some chill time, since yesterday which was largely spent assembling flat pack furniture! 😂🪛

Had a little thrash on AC: Valhalla 🎮 whilst Bug has had a play with her new vinyl player 🎶 & then we've messed about on Character.AI including flirting with a folding chair and then some absolutely bizarre story about Katsuki being bullied for being gay, then getting repeatedly kicked in the nuts by the entire assorted cast... now he's got a booty the size of a planet 🌍 what even is life? 😂

Been ice skating and then on rides at Winter Wonderland ⛸️ We cut the fun short because Lysh has had enough & I don't see the point in forcing her to crack on simply "to justify the cost" if she's not going to enjoy it 🎢 Went Maccies for some food (and a Grimace Shake 🥛) and I gave our prepaid wristbands to some young lads since there was still a fair bit of time left on them - then when we went get a taxi home, saw them standing at the entrance to Winter Wonderland, presumably after failing to not make it obvious that they were using someone elses wristbands 🤦🏼♂️😂

Woke Lysh up at 09:45 as she was still flat out 🤨😴 she had some Pop Tarts, chilled on her phone for half hour, and then packed her stuff up ready to be picked up at 11am 😧 so I didn't really get to see her this morning but at least we got to spend some extra time together last night 🎮💛

Charlie visited & said he wanted to go Hanley for a change since it was a nice day 🌞 Bus times were gash since it's a Sunday so we popped over Subway on the garage so he could grab a footlong, then we waited almost half an hour for a bus to arrive 🚍 We get up Hanley and we pop in B&M so he can buy a new protein shaker & a bottle of banana protein milkshake. As we're leaving, some thief legs it out the door with something under their arm, and is pursued by the staff. Charlie insists on following after them saying he'll batter them and get the item(s) back 🤣🤦🏼♂️ so we walk around the outside of the bus station and end up round by the museum (we didn't find the thief). Char sits on a bench for a couple minutes then says lets go back home now... 😂 No fucking chance kid! I've not just spent £5 and nearly an hour of my afternoon to come all the way Hanley just to head back home after 20-min! 🤯 So we had a little strut up through town instead and then had a mooch around the Potteries, including a good poke around in Menkind. Headed back home at 4pm-ish ready for him to be picked up at 16:30. Whilst we're sitting in the bus station, his phone battery dies 🔋 so he whips out a second phone and tell's me it's his "snap phone", I'm like, what?? 🤨 He says he's got a device ban on Snapchat for his proper phone because he was posting about weed on his story, so he has to carry a second phone now so he can use Snapchat 😩🥴 he then sits snapping someone about weed on his snap phone! 🙃 I genuinely worry about this lad at times! 😫

Q: Has your perspective on "you (don't) owe your parents" changed after becoming a parent?
A: Having a child has made me appreciate and respect my own parents so much more. In fact, I feel indebted to them somewhat for how good my childhood was, since I see now first hand how difficult it is to provide that quality of upbringing. Admittedly I also see their failings, but I am mature enough to acknowledge they are only human. However, that being said, I do not feel like my own child "owes me" anything. I parent her from a place of love and acceptance; I chose to have a child, it's my responsibility to care for her and raise her. Any sacrifice I make is voluntary and off my own back. So, I feel as though I owe my parents, but I don't feel as though my child owes me. It's quite the conundrum.

Got home from work & facetimed Bug to finalise arrangements for tomorrow 🧳 Chucked the washer on then returned a missed call off Pete which subsequently led to me ending up down the Forresters ~19:30 🍻 had a few beers with Pete, Phil, Phil, and Ang 💋 Ordered Phil Jr a sambuca, but Hermione served him a tequila 😅 Pete headed home but I stuck about and had a bit of banter with the Gen-Z's... "free's are pre's"! Cheers for the black sambuca Phil Jr! 😂 then at circa 10pm Pete returns with Leon and abducts me to randomly go for samosa's at Coffee & Chai ☕😂 we go back Pete's but since it's already 11pm I make the sensible decision to head back home to put the dryer on... and then end up making myself a curry (since I hadn't had any tea earlier) and play some AC Valhalla for a bit before bed 🍛🎮

Fucking inception dream! 😵 I woke up at 07:03 then was panicking about oversleeping, so I kept tossing and turning, drifting in and out of restless sleep. Then I turned my alarms off prematurely and was just lay there half-asleep intending to get up shortly. Next thing I suddenly snap myself awake, aware I'd fallen back asleep! I check my phone, panicking that I'm late for work! How much have I overslept by?! It's 05:56 and my alarms are still primed... I must have dreamt that I awoke and turned the alarms off at 07:03! 🥴🤣

Had to get a little baby shift at work out the way before celebrations could begin and halfway in I was joined by Lysh 😅 we grabbed some snacks for later & a bit of lunch from Hanley then got a taxi up to Alton Towers. Straight into the theme park and onto the Heave-Ho and then for a couple goes on Marauders Mayhem 🎢 then went to catch the 3pm showing of The Sprout That Saved Christmas in the Courtyard 😁 afterwards we headed over to CBeebies Land and relived Lysh's childhood by having a go on In The Night Garden boat ride together (including a cameo of me being told off over the intercom for rocking the boat 🙈😂) then we went on the Dugee play area until it was time to go check into our room. We got sorted out & tarted up, then went for a boujee meal at the Secret Garden Restaurant 🤌🏼 then went to watch the Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime 🎭 back to the room for a chill where Lysh ended up on facetime with Ava 🤳🏼 and I almost ended up dozing off 🥱 we made our way over to Ma Garrita's Bar as midnight neared and grabbed a table & drinks 🍻 then we waited for the countdown and saw 2025 in together! 💛🎆
